Mainstay Press publishes liberatory fiction and other such art for social change.

Mainstay books help readers understand the realities and possibilities of contemporary social and political life, especially by revealing moving and powerful personal realms in light of their public and private aspects.

The politically progressive literary and popular works of Mainstay Press challenge the limited nature of American (U.S.) fiction, in particular, by exploring public realms of crisis today profoundly related to private life that U.S. novelists especially have largely avoided, at least in much progressive, revolutionary or otherwise liberatory detail.

And for the sake of showing the vitality of engaged art, Mainstay Press publishes additionally some works of engaged literature that, while not designed to foster change, show the great aesthetic diversity and vitality inherent in such work.
